Jesus-the Manna from Heaven

John 6:51 (KJV)   I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

This sermon is a special teaching about how Jesus Christ is our heavenly manna. The Israelites ate manna from heaven throughout their journey in the desert. They ate the heavenly bread but their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. This sermon takes us into the very being of who our Lord Jesus is and how He becomes the living bread to all who believe in Him.

John 6:51 (KJV) I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Manna was the food that angels fed on in heaven, which was given to the Israelites in their wanderings in the desert (Exodus 16:4). This was an everyday phenomenon wherein the Lord rained down food for His people! This sustained them for 40 years in the barren desert. It was a mystery and sure was glorious to experience. Jesus Christ underlines this happening in the Jewish history and points out to the people that He is the heavenly manna that has been sent for our salvation and healing. Those who ate manna died but those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ the bread of life will have eternal life (John 6:31,32, 48,49).

Our life in this world is all about understanding that Jesus Christ is our everything and make Him our all. From the manna that the Israelites ate in the desert we learn 7 principles of Jesus Christ our heavenly manna

Manna!

John 6:51 (KJV) I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Our life in this world is all about understanding that Jesus Christ is our everything and make Him our all. From the manna that the Israelites ate in the desert we learn 7 principles of Jesus Christ our heavenly manna

 Principles of Manna from Heaven.

  1. Jesus is never ending.

Exodus 16:4 (KJV) Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

The Israelites began to grumble when there was no food. They start thinking of going back to Egypt for food. They were so quick to forget how God led them through the Red Sea. God as He promised rained down food from heaven every morning and evening. This was not just for one day. It was everyday and sufficient for everyone.  Jesus Christ is never ending like that. He is available for every one and at every time. He hears us when we call.

Apostle John says through Him, out of His fullness we have received grace upon grace. He is not just for a season but the center of it all (John 1:16)

  1. Your relationship with Jesus is the test of your life.

Exodus 16:5,6 (KJV)  And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the Lord hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:

The manna was obtained when they followed specific instructions. We live our lives as per the instructions of the Lord as well. That is what brings a blessing in our homes. Our relationship with Christ is the test of our lives. It is so important to reflect on how we relish this relationship with Christ, how we walk according to His word, how we treat His church, the body of Christ. That’s the true test of our faith. The Lord gave instructions to the Israelites to collect the manna and the Lord was so particular to know whether His people would follow his instructions.

  1. He is all-sufficient in every realm of life.

Exodus 16:17,18 (KJV) And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less. And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

The manna fell all over the Israelite camp neatly parceled by heavenly dew and ready for consumption and nourishment as those who took part in it required. He that gathered much had nothing more and he that gathered less had no luck. It was just sufficient. For Sabbath, they could gather what they needed on the day before and it remained fresh. Manna gave the Israelites strength to keep the Holy Day.

Jesus Christ our heavenly manna is all-sufficient for us. In every realm of our life, He is able to uphold us and help us go through this journey of life. When you are in need of health He becomes our health, when in need of solution He becomes our wisdom. Jesus is the way, truth and life.

  1. You can fully experience Him, when you are filled with God’s word.

Exodus 16:20 (KJV) Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

The Jewish people in their oral traditions, speak of how the manna fell as close to a person as possible depending on his relationship with the Lord. When they violated the Lord’s instructions they couldn’t see the manna. We can have the full experience of Jesus Christ when we are filled with God’s word and walk according to it. We tap into the grace of God by following His Word. If we follow our own ways and expect the Lord to work-our religion will stink. Our christian life should not stink.

  1. Manna is at its best quality, when you observe God’s principle of rest.

Exodus 16:23 (KJV) And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

The Lord’s instruction included observing the Sabbath day, by not going to collect manna on the Lord’s day. They were to collect for two days on the sixth day itself. Some however didn’t follow the principle of the Lord’s day of rest and went out to collect manna- finding none that day.

We, as children of God experience the best of God’s goodness not because of our good deeds or holiness but its when observe the Sabbath of the Lord. We need to be in the rest of the Lord ceasing from our works and commit to worship

“If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath,
from doing your pleasure on my holy day,
and call the Sabbath a delight
and the holy day of the LORD honorable;
if you honor it, not going your own ways,
or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly;
then you shall take delight in the LORD,
and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth;.”(Isaiah 58:13-14)

  1. Manna is the feast God prepares before our enemies

Exodus 16:35 (KJV) And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

Manna is the promise the psalmist speaks of God preparing a table before our enemies (Psalms 23:5). The nations that were around the time of exodus couldn’t help but wonder what sustained the Israelites in their travel of 40 years through the desert. No one could fathom to prepare a daily table for 4 million people. It was the heavenly bread that sustained them. Jesus Christ is the one who sustains us. It is not our career, education or will power but it is the Lord who leads us by providing all that we need.

  1. Manna-Bread in the Holy of holies.

Exodus 16:32-34 (KJV) And Moses said, This is the thing which the Lord commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept for your generations. As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

The Lord commanded Moses to have Aaron collect some of this manna and place it in the Ark of the Lord’s presence in the Holy of holies as a reminder for generations to come.

Jesus Christ is that precious bread from heaven who was sent into this world to give us life and life eternal. The Bible tells us that we hold this glorious Spirit in jars of clay, out mortal bodies. No impurities can contaminate us. It is His life that we pass through to the generations to come.
