"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)
As St. Paul continues his exposition about the administration of gifts, he stresses on the giver of gifts. The concept of unity should never leave a church. In this church at Corinth, there was factionalism, socio-economic divide and also differences based on the administration of gifts. A church should be a centre of manifestation of heavenly gifts. Diverse gifts would operate when people open up to the presence and ministry of the Holy Spirit. Sadly these days the members of a church do not wait in His presence and allow the ministry of the Holy Spirit. We are always in a hurry to finish off the services and run home. We seem to be bothered about everything else other than our spiritual lives. Mark my words - we are running in danger if we allow the coldness to set in.
The present day church is solely reliant on the Pastor to do it all. We have downgraded to a level from Corinth church where it's one gift, one service and one working and that is solely on the shoulders of the Pastor. Oh how we long for the different kinds of gifts to be manifested as the Holy Spirit distributes them. Different kinds of service, but the same Lord. Different kinds of administration but it's all the same God at work. A local church is strong when there is a mighty move of the Holy Spirit and gifts operational. Remember every gift is important, every service is important and it should be administered with grace. It's all God, all His gifts and all for His glory.
