"For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:20)
St. Paul in his writings stressed much on how our lifestyle changes due to a realisation of a spiritual truth. Spiritual ignorance can be very dangerous and can put our eternity in danger. It is therefore very important that we make it our aim to know more of our spiritual inheritance and position in Christ. We are instructed by the Holy Spirit through the Apostle to flee sexual immorality. Every other sin we commit takes place outside the body. Sexual sins occur in and through our body and we use the faculties against the word of God and His holy law. Thus St. Paul reminds the Corinth church again in his trademark way ”Know ye Not”. In other words he wanted them to be aware of the fact that their bodies hosted the Holy Spirit. The bodies carried the presence of God.
When the King of Kings and Lord of Lords take our bodies as His possession and residence, we need to be responsible and accountable for the way we treat our body. The body is not different from the temple - the supreme place of worship for a Jew. Like how a temple was set apart in its purpose and function, our bodies are set apart for His glory. Each one of us carry the glory and presence of the Holy Spirit as the temple hosted the presence of God in the Most Holy Place. We are bought with a price and it's imperative that we honour God in our body and in our spirit. In this world where we have seen giants fall in sexual immorality, let’s keep reminding ourselves of this truth - we are the temple of the Holy Spirit and we are bought with a price.
