Hebrews 4: 1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
God wants us to enter His rest just as He wanted the Israelites to be saved from their slavery and rest in His promise. He wanted to take them to the land flowing with milk and honey but because of their wilderness mentality they failed to enter His rest.
Problems that hinder us from entering into God’s rest:
1) Hardening of heart:
Hebrews 3:8, 9(KJV) Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
How do we respond when God speaks to us? Is He the priority in our life, or are we overwhelmed by the deadlines, latest technology and worries of this world? Don’t be like the Israelite’s who failed to acknowledge the voice of God by the hardening of heart. We can never enter His rest unless we heed to His voice.
2) Err in the heart:
Hebrew 3:10(KJV) Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do always err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
The people of Israel had always erred in their heart. We can find many such people these days. The saying goes “wherever the sinner goes is hell.” They don’t have the right thoughts, godly thoughts within their heart. We should pray and seek the power of the Holy Spirit to tune our thoughts in accordance with God’s word.
