"Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things?Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day?or shall a nation be born at once?for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children." (Isaiah 66:8)
The Jews were put in concentration camps and millions of Jews were killed by the Nazi regime. No one gave the Jews a chance to survive as they went through the holocaust. Isaiah saw the day and spoke of Israel as a mother giving birth to a son. No one has heard such things in the past. No one has seen these things. Can a nation be born at once? Can a country be born in a day? These were the words of the Prophet Isaiah. The nation of Israel had to go through such birth pangs that she brought forth her children. In 1948 May 14, as the Jewish state of Israel came into existence, many could not believe their eyes. The next door neighbours launched attacks against Israel the very next day threatening its existence. Seventy years have passed by and the nation of Israel is still thriving. The children referred here can be the remnant chosen to bear the name of the Lord Jesus.
Many Bible commentators have different opinions of the above passage. The travail of Zion is mentioned by the Lord Jesus in His eschatological preaching. The nation of Israel was literally born on May 14th on a single day, yet the day when they realise the person and the work of the Lord Jesus is when the prophecy of Isaiah shall come to pass. St. John gives a preview of this in the book of revelation too. The extreme times of Zion's travail will soon come and we would see the chosen ones being redeemed by the power of the Lord. The Biblical prophecies are coming to a climax and we would see the Lord taking over the reins of the earth. The earth and creation shall rejoice in the manifestation of the sons of God.For further reading: Romans 8:18-25, Revelation 12
